Villagers Gather in a result day frenzy

Result day for the village election went on in a convivial atmosphere on Monday. By 1 pm the political agents, candidates and the villagers had started celebrating. In the north, villages like Goodlands, Cottage, Arsenal and Terre Rouge the results were out around that time. The wining parties mostly from the Socialiste party were preparing for the customary political rally.

Terre Rouge failed to attract the voters on Sunday with a low participation rate of 21.22 per cent. As a result, the winners were announced early.

There was not too much animation at Terre Rouge, contrarily to Goodlands where the Watering Can Party supporters were all set for the parade in the streets with their flags in hand.

At Riviere du Rempart, many of the young candidates who were elected in thanked the people who have supported them and given them a chance to prove themselves.

At Flacq the ‘Ball’ party’s symbols were omnipresent, further even, as the results announced most if its candidates were elected, shattering the hopes of the Padlock party. At Triolet, however, the atmosphere was a bit tense as many people had been waiting for the result since 9 in the morning.

A small problem cropped up in the morning as the returning officer forgot to ring the bell and the counting had started in some rooms while not in others.
