‘Plaine-Verte queen' assets under ICAC scrutiny

After having the properties of Naserah Bibi Vavra, 34 years, also known as La Reine de Plaine Verte or Lady Diana the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) have summoned Vavra to come, in the next few days, to explain the origin of the funds used to purchase the seized properties. Investigators suspected the properties were proceeds of drug trafficking and had suspected her to be part of the Gros Dereck drug network.

Investigators have seized a Mercedes Benz C200L Coupé Saloon, 612 square meters of land at Saint Croix and froze the suspects bank account, late last week following an order issued by judge Benjamin Marie-Joseph.

However, Vavra denied all speculations linking her to the heroin drug network. Instead she attributed her wealth to “A successful 'Briani' family business.”

Vavra is the ex-wife of a minister who was temporarily charged with money laundering. She was also married to Siddick Islam, alias Ti-Nerf who was sentenced to 45 years' imprisonment for drug trafficking. Investigators suspicion was raised over the origin of her properties after she informed investigators she was unemployed. Some would suggest that her political influences of Navin Ramgoolam's party   would automatically advantage her drug dealings.
