SAJ, Bérenger confident of victory, demand clean sweep in municipal polls

All 90 Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM)/Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) alliance candidates for the municipal elections were present at the congress held at Quatre Bornes on Friday. This was the last congress for the political party to mobilise the public before the municipal elections on December 9. During the congress, the leader of both parties had the same message to convey, “To urge people to vote early and ensure they vote till the end and remain active.”

Present at the congress, the leader of Remake 2000, Sir Anerood Jugnauth stated the candidates are competent, sincere and hardworking people in contrast to those who are currently in the municipalities.

He added that they will bring changes in the towns and developments.

“There is a need to make a clean sweep of the councillors at the municipalities because the population is fed up with the mismanagement that has taken place during the past seven years,” said SAJ.

“This change is important for future generations to live in a good environment,” said SAJ.

He stated the present government is only here to make money.

The country is heading towards a dictatorship and our institutions are becoming corrupt.

“The Labour Party claims that they put people first but in fact they put their people first, as they are nominating people on the eve of municipal elections” added SAJ.

MMM leader Paul Bérenger stated: “We are confident that we will win and it will be 5-0 win.”

“The alliance is presenting a great team that will develop the municipalities and come up with reforms that will improve the lives of citizens,” he said.

He added that the change in municipalities will be beneficial for the whole country.

“Just like the village elections when the PM Navin Ramgoolam received a shock, he will get an even bigger shock on Monday,” said SAJ.
