SAJ hits back at Deerpalsing, records statement at police

Former President of the republic, Sir Anerood Jugnauth (SAJ), recorded a case of criminal defamation against the communication manager of the Labour Party, MP Nita Deerpalsing at the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) on Monday. He stated the MP had alleged during a press conference the he and Opposition leader, Paul Bérenger, had met MP Cehl Meeah 13 times to plot against the government in relations to the latest revelations made by Meeah in the Gros Dereck drug case.

"I have never met Meeah and the public interest in the case is causing prejudice to my reputation and integrity. I request the police to start an inquiry in the matter," said Jugnauth.

He told the press he never discussed the topic during his political meetings "as I never speak over matters which I have no proof of."

The former President statement was recorded by inspector Ujodha under the supervision of superintendent Yasdev Callee. Deerpalsing had earlier alleged SAJ had several meetings with Cehl Meeah.
